It is our regret to report the passing of a former cricket professional to the club Peter Wilson, who died recently.
Peter, a fierce competitor on the field and a lovely bloke off it, was a medium pace bowler and a powerful batsman who spent a couple of years at the club in the early 80’s, in the same team as 14-year old Grant Jones. Delph stalwart Jones fondly recalled playing with him and the impact on the team at the time.
The bowler was also a loyal servant to Milnrow Cricket Club who dominated Central Lancashire League cricket in the 1970s and was a member of their league winning team in 1972. Wilson also took 100 wickets in one season, one of the few amateurs ever to do so in the CLL.
The club would like to pass on their heartfelt condolences to Peter’s family. He’ll be sadly missed.
