The second team will have a new man in charge after Danny Jones, captain since 2017, stepped up to first team duties. Jason Leaver (pictured above), last term's 3XI captain, will now lead the seconds in the new season in a captaincy reshuffle ahead of the 2023 season.
Former 'twos' skipper Daniel (above), will join forces with younger brother Isaac (18) and cousin Nathan to make it three Jones’ in the first team and his undoubted passion and influence on the younger players will be an asset as we attempt to bounce back following last season’s relegation. Nathan Jones, who will continue as captain will receive good support from his slightly older cousin who he’s grown up with at the club but often been on separate teams.
Jason Leaver, who rejoined the club following a break having progressed through the junior ranks takes over from Daniel who presided over a crucial period as the seconds established themselves as a strong Premiership Two outfit, based around a healthy balance of talented youngsters and experienced older heads. Last season, the team enjoyed another strong league campaign and topped it off with their first ever appearance in the Paddock Shield final, only coming off second best after an inspired performance by Moorlands’ skipper Alex Rowden.
However Jason now has an opportunity to continue the good work working with some excellent young talent. He will balance the captaincy with his final year at University and we’re sure with a good foundation in leading the development 3XI side last season will put him in good stead to continue that success.
The new captaincy for the 3XI will be taken up by 17-year old Archie Davis (above). The keen youngster is known for his intense drive and taking charge of the development team will provide him with crucial leadership experience by helping prepare our junior cricketers for adult cricket.
The club would like to put on record their thanks and gratitude to Archie, Danny and Jason for the work done up to this point and are excited to get the new campaign underway.
